The ability to read is a precious gift of God and critical today in the age of information. God Himself chose to communicate to us the truth of His love and grace through a great book, the Bible. At Cornerstone, our goal is to teach students how to read, analyze, and appreciate great, wholesome literature. The opportunity to evaluate a character's motivation, behavior, and the results of that behavior from a Christian perspective is a unique and valuable experience in Christian education. The primary purpose of Cornerstone's year round Reading/English Program is the development of learners who choose to read and continue to read throughout life. To accomplish this goal, children must be given ample opportunity to read great literature at school and at home. Strong reading skills are the foundation for success in all areas of the curriculum. To this end, members of the Cornerstone faculty have developed a Summer Reading Program to enhance the school-year Reading/English Program. Books have been suggested that will enhance Cornerstone's curriculum. Students are expected to read 15 minutes daily throughout the summer. All students should set a personal goal for a reasonable number of books to read or have read to them. A Summer Reading Log is provided for students to record what they have read. |
