Four students from Cornerstone Christian Academy participated in The Granite State Certamen, a Latin competition sponsored by the Ascanius Youth Classics Institute on Saturday, November 12th. The competition, hosted by the Spaulding High School Latin Club, brought together nine high schools and middle schools from around New Hampshire and Massachusetts to compete on questions of Latin vocabulary and grammar, as well as Ancient Roman history, culture and literature. Cornerstone students participating were Josh Bisson and Aislinn Noble from seventh grade and Bridget Krauss and Robby do Carmo from sixth grade.

There were three levels of competition:  Novice, for those new to Latin study, Lower level, for those who have had more than one year of high school Latin, and Upper level for those who are reading Latin literature. The Cornerstone students, who begin taking Latin in the fourth grade, were by far the youngest in the competition. They participated in the Novice division and came in seventh out of nine teams, beating out two high school teams, and actually winning one of the four rounds in which they participated.  Their Latin teacher, Mary Beth Bowling, commented, "I am so proud of my kids; they really held their own against much older students. They're already talking about how they plan to win next year!"
